Do you know if your software is ready for NPI? It's critically important for you to know: Your ability to comply with NPI will affect whether you are able to submit Paper Claims, Electronic Claims and Electronic Eligibility requests.

Late in 2006, we sent all our customers information about their Sage practice management or community health center management systems and how they relate to National Provider Identifier, or NPI. Visit this web page regularly - because you'll always find the most up-to-date information here. Additionally, watch your email, mail and fax machine - we'll be sending out updated information as it becomes available.

Steps toward NPI compliancy
According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), "Getting an NPI is free - not having one can be costly." Here is a checklist to help you determine if your practice is ready for the May 23rd deadline.

  • Obtain your NPI(s). For information on how to apply, visit the CMS website.
  • Check the status of your software updates. We've sent information to all of our customers on the status of their software's ability to handle NPI. Additionally, you may use the links below to find out if your system is NPI-compliant.
  • Give your NPI to your payers and other organizations you work with. If you have not, you should contact these organizations for information on how to do so.
  • Talk to your payers, clearinghouses, etc. to find out if they're ready. Make sure you understand their timelines for readiness. Our solutions will allow for varying payer timelines.
  • After the above steps are completed, test your NPI. We're communicating testing information to all Sage practice management customers. Check the links below for more information on your specific system.
  • Educate your staff about NPI.
  • Integrate NPI into your business practices.
